To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Washington Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

· A copy of the standard curriculum currently used for sexual education throughout the school district. If there is different standard curricula for different grade levels, I would like all of those individual curricula.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Paxtyn Merten

Hi Paxtyn,

We are in receipt of your attached request (received by our office during business hours on Wednesday, 12/12) as well as your attached follow-up request, which we believe to be an identical copy of your 12/12 request. Please let us know if that understanding is incorrect.

In speaking with relevant staff, it looks like the records you are requesting are available in hard copy only. Per Superintendent Procedure 4040SP<https://www.seattleschools.org/UserFiles/Servers/Server_543/File/District/Departments/School%20Board/Procedures/Series%204000/4040SP.pdf>, the District charges $0.10/page to scan and provide these items electronically. Based on the volume of items requested, I would estimate there are around 3,000 – 3,500 (possibly more) pages to scan. As such, the total cost for these items would likely be around $300-350+.

Before we proceed with reviewing and scanning these items, can you please confirm that you will pay the costs associated with the request?

Based on our current number of open requests, the upcoming holiday months, and the staff time it will take to process this request, we would anticipate providing these to you by Friday, February 15th, if not sooner. However, we will not proceed with scanning until we receive confirmation from you as to costs.

Thanks,

Hi Paxtyn,

In our last correspondence to you on December 18th below, we emailed to inform you that we had received your request but would need you to confirm your willingness to pay scanning costs prior to proceeding. As over 30 days have passed from that email and we have not received confirmation or further correspondence from you, we are considering your request abandoned pursuant to WAC 44-14-040(12) and WAC 44-14-04005(1).

This email is to notify you that we are closing your request at this time. Should you wish to pay the costs and receive this information in the future, you are welcome to submit a new request at any time.

Thanks!
