This Friday, we’re joining together with partners to host a free training for journalists, organizers, and the public to better understand how to use open records to bring more transparency to policing.

As protests of the police killings of George Floyd and other Black Americans continue, transparency is key to not only better understand how law enforcement in America often fails communities but also to hold these powerful institutions accountable.

Already, we’ve seen examples of MuckRock users filing requests records regarding:

• Body camera footage of the protests
• The arrest of journalists covering the protests
• Complaints about former office Derek Chauvin

During the presentation, we’ll talk through these and previous large-scale requesting projects made through the site that can help shine a light on key issues.
