Who's writing all the anti-trans bills?

Hey y’all. I’m trans myself and I’ve been looking up anti-trans laws and bills in a few states and nationally. I’ve noticed they’re a bit… too similar to be coincidence. I think it would be very useful to have some proof of why they’re like that. I ultimately want to have a huge dataset compiling information from across the nation that will show who legislators met with while they were drafting anti-trans bills, find out there is evidence of non-legislator authorship, who was contacting the legislators related to the bills (schedules and correspondence), and the same of the states’ governor/governor’s office.

This Crowdsource has Three Main Steps:

  1. Law Citations - People need to list them for each state/nationally so the requesters can request. Citations should be of anti-queer, but particularly anti-trans laws, to include any laws that make a strict legal definition of biological sex. Ideally do not include citations from prior to 2014, unless the original law was amended in 2014 or later. Please also include failed bills that otherwise meet this criteria in your lists.
  2. Media coverage - about any of the listed bills or laws, must include at least one quote from a congressperson, state legislator, or someone from the state or federal executive branches. Links to articles or videos, additionally PDFs of articles for preservation when possible.
  3. FOIA Requests - See top of description for the specifics I’m looking for. Pick a chunk and let me know through the form that you’ve submitted the request so we don’t get too many unnecessary double-ups. There’s a lot of ground to cover.
  4. Background Info - this includes information and profiles about known/studied anti-LGBT organizations and prominent individuals. It can also include studies and statistics about changes in rates of trans health outcomes, anything you can think of that could enhance understanding of the topic that doesn’t better fit another topic. This isn’t the same as media as it’s not examining media coverage of bills/laws. It can, however, include critical coverage of laws/bills by experts who are exploring possible outcomes of passing them.

Bonus: It would be neat to get an accounting of all the government spending (including hours worked on related projects x those employees’ wages) related to the creation, promotion, defense (when legally challenged), and enforcement of any anti-trans law or failed bills. these could probably be dumped in mass requests but might need to file to multiple departments.
