To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, M.G.L. c.66, §10, I hereby request the following records:

The transcript from the trial of Robin Murphy which concluded on January 14, 1981
The full case file for Robin Murphy including:
-The docket sheet
-Criminal complaint
-The application for the criminal complaint (including any attachments)
-All motions filed by parties involved in the case
-Any and all orders and decisions handed down by the judge in Murphy’s trial
Also:
Any records related to Murphy’s Dec. 19, 1982 recantation of her testimony regarding the murder of Doreen Levesque
Robin Murphy’s 2002 motion, and sworn affidavit in support of the motion, requesting the withdrawal of her guilty plea.
The response to Murphy’s motion to withdraw her guilty plea.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Caitlin Russell

Dear Ms. Russell,

I am writing in response to your request for records relating to Robin Murphy, Carl Drew, and Andres Maltais. We have located the files and I have begun to sift through them for copies of complaints etc. But, due to the enormous volume of the records, I think it would be best to refine the request so that I can identify whatever is most relevant to your needs. I estimate that there is well over 70 lbs of records relating to the three defendants and it would be extremely inefficient to go through the documents individually.

I am out of the office until the end of the next week. But I’d like to call you the week of December 5th and discuss this matter.
Let me know when would be the best time to reach you and what number I should use. Thank you very much and I look forward to working with you regarding this project.

Yul-mi

You can reach me at 774-634-6176. I understand it's a lot of material, but I believe further refining my request would lead to the exclusion of materials that I'm seeking. As I mentioned in the initial request, I'd like the full case files for all three individuals. If I don't hear from you by Dec. 5, I'll give you a call, and we can sort this out. Thanks so much!
Caitlin

Hi Caitlin – Brenna, who had been working on the project, left the office last month and I’ve been meaning to pick up where she left off. Sorry about that. I’ll follow up with you this week. Yul-mi Cho

From: Caitlin Russell

Thanks for getting back to me. Would it be possible to release part of what you have, and release the rest when your office is done sorting through it?

From: Cho, Yul-mi (DAA)

Once I get an approval from my supervisor on the current proposed list of records to be disseminated, then I can review the records one by one to make the necessary redactions, then release them as they are ready. Does that make sense? Yul-mi

From: Caitlin Russell

Hello,
Can you give me an estimated date of release?

From: Cho, Yul-mi (DAA)

Once I have an approval from my supervisor, I think I can move pretty quickly in terms of the redactions but at this point, I cannot give you a date of release. I will endeavor to prioritize this project as I know it is long overdue. I apologize. Yul-mi
