Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

1. The March 27, 2025, letter received by the California Department of Education from the United States Department of Education Student Privacy Policy Office regarding an investigation into compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act in relation to California Assembly Bill 1955. 2. Additional communication from the U.S. Department of Education to all Chief State Schools Officers and all Superintendents of Local Educational Agencies regarding obligations under FERPA, sent on March 28, 2025. 3. Any response from the California Department of Education, school officers and/or superintendents to the U.S. Department of Education. 4. Any communication between the California Department of Education, school officers and/or superintendents about federal communication or investigation.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
