From: Shawn Musgrave
To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the Rhode Island Access to Public Records Act ("APRA"), I hereby request the following records:
Written procedures for access to the agency’s public records, including any records request forms required or suggested by the agency.
I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.
Sincerely,
Shawn Musgrave

This is a basic form that we use. The Charlestown Police Department is
currently undergoing Policy re writing, due to the Police Accreditation
process. I am unsure of when the official policy will be written. As of
now, I follow RI General Law TITLE 38
Public RecordsCHAPTER 38-2
Access to Public Record
Should you have further questions, I recommend that you contact Chief
Allen, or Lt, Paliotta.
Thank you
Laura

Hello,
Thank you for sending the APRA form. Could you please send a copy of the current APRA procedures, per my initial request?
Thank you, and have a great weekend!

Mr. Musgrave,
I am the new police chief with the Charlestown Police Department and have
been for the past 19 months. It appears that other than the records
request form we do not have a written policy. We are currently taking part
it the RI accreditation program and that is one of the written policy that
we will have to written and adopted ASAP. That said, we follow RIGL as it
relates to open records requests. The town itself has a policy, which is
on record with the clerk's office. Please feel free to call at
364-1229.
