From: Brandon Smith
To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act., I hereby request the following records:
Documents sufficient to show whether there was any internal investigation into the officers who are said to have entered the Burger King at the scene of the death of Laquan McDonald. In a sworn statement by the manager of the Burger King at the scene of Laquan McDonald’s death, the manager stated that Chicago police officers went into the Burger King room that he said contained recorded surveillance tape(s), and upon officers’ leaving, he—the manager—found that surveillance tape(s) that would have shown all or part of the incident with McDonald were missing. To the extent there was an internal investigation, and to the extent it has been closed, I request all documentation and communications from within said investigation. To the extent the investigation is still ongoing, I request dates and times of the last ten communications sent as a part of said investigation.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.
Sincerely,
Brandon Smith
