Pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140/1 to 11), I hereby request the following records:
A map (or rather the data that, output on a screen, looks like a map) wherein a CPD officer or staff member could 1. see where crimes happen, each crime represented by a point on the city map; 2. segregate out violent crime (defined here as murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault); 3. learn whether the cases are open or closed and when they were opened and closed (if indeed they have been closed already). If CPD has such a functional "map" (ie. database with locational coordinates), I request the database behind said map, for crimes that occurred from the beginning of the mapping system in use up through the end of day September 21, 2016.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.
