To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Colorado Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:

All memos, budgets, proposed budgets, presentations, and emails from the dates 01/01/2012 to 04/09/18 mentioning the use of, spending on, and/or consideration of bulletproof shelters for use in schools in the state.

An example of one such company that produces bulletproof shelters is the company called Shelter in Place (http://shelterinplace.com/pricing), mentioned in this local media report, among others covered in the press in various states: http://abc7ny.com/is-this-bulletproof-school-shelter-the-new-normal/3160640/

I am a member of the press and therefore request that fees be waived.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 3 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Erik Franco

Good morning,

The Colorado Department of Education does not collect this information – this is a local control decision so we suggest you contact individual school districts about this matter.

It might also be helpful to contact the School Safety Resource Center at the Colorado Department of Public Safety in case they have relevant information. Here’s a link to their contact webpage: https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/cssrc/staff-1.

Hope this helps. Have a good day!

Erica
