Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:
1. The total number of police use of force incidents, broken down by type of force used, between 2013-2017 (separated by year).
2. The total number of people that police used force against, between 2013-2017 (separated by year).
3. The total number of police use of force complaints reported between 2013-2017 (separated by year).
4. The total number of police use of force complaints sustained between 2013-2017 (separated by year).
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Thank you for submitting your issue to Gardena!
We have received your Public Records Request Form. Your request has been assigned a reference number. Please contact us if you need additional information. Government Code Section 6253 (a) Public records are open to inspection at all times during the office hours of the state or local agency and every person has a right to inspect any public record, except as hereafter provided. Any reasonably segregable portion of a record shall be available for inspection by any person requesting the record after deletion of the portions that are exempted by law.(c) Each agency, upon a request for a copy of records, shall, within 10 days from receipt of the request, determine whether the request, in whole or in part, seeks copies of disclosable public records in the possession of the agency and shall promptly notify the person making the request of the determination and the reasons therefor. *In unusual circumstances, the time limit prescribed in thissection may be extended by written notice by the head of the agency or his or her designee to the person making the request, setting forth the reasons for the extension and the date on which a determination is expected to be dispatched. No notice shall specify a datethat would result in an extension for more than 14 days. *”Unusual Circumstances” means the following, but only to the extent reasonably necessary to the proper processing of the particular request: (1) The need to search for and collect the requested recordsfrom field facilities or other establishments that are separate from the office processing the request. (2) The need to search for, collect, and appropriately examine a voluminous amount of separate and distinct records that are demanded in a single request. (3) The need for consultation, which shall be conducted with all practicable speed, with another agency having substantial interest in thedetermination of the request or among two or more components of the agency having substantial subject matter interest therein. (4) The need to compile data, to write programming language or a computer program, or to construct a computer report to extract data.

Becky Romero: Dear Mr. Sinyangwe,This responds to your CPRA request. The City does not maintain records for the dates and in the form you have requested. However, Government Code Section 12825.2 has, since January 1, 2017, required each law enforcement agency to annually furnish to the Department of Justice a report of all instances of officer involved shootings and incidents in which use of force resulted in serious bodily injury or death. A copy of those reports, redacted if and as necessary, will be provided to you in response to your request. We anticipate that the reports will be compiled within the next two weeks. Prior to releasing the records I will advise you of the costs. The records will be released to you upon receipt of payment. Please let us know if you have any questions.
