Subject: Florida Sunshine Law Request: Hillsborough County HVAC Systems

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Florida Sunshine Law, I hereby request the following records:

Related to district HVAC systems for the last five years:

Maintenance records
inspection reports
air quality tests
capital improvement reports for all district schools

As background, this request is filed as part of a journalism project looking at HVAC systems across schools in the United States, and similar requests are being filed in additional school districts.

If you have summary reports or other documents that are likely to include largely similar information and are easier to provide, I’m willing to accept those as a substitute.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days.

Hello,

I am responding to your public records request to the Hillsborough County Public School district from January 12, 2022. I need additional information to provide a cost estimate for you.

You asked for maintenance records. Our operations department wants to know specifically what maintenance records you are looking for. Would you like all records on when an HVAC is broken and it needs to be fixed, for example?

Also, can you be more specific in the inspection reports you are looking for? Installation inspections or routine maintenance?
