Good Afternoon

Attached please find the first two out of ten (1 and 2 of 10) .pdf files containing the flag images submitted to the Illinois Flag Commission. Descriptions of the submissions and personal and private information have been redacted pursuant to your request and FOIA Sections 7(1)(b) and 7(1)(c). Due to technical limitations, we are unable to transmit images in their original format and have compiled the images into ten (10) .pdf documents.

Due to the need to consult with other Departments and continue to review the documents for redactions, we are taking the five working-day statutory extension to send the remaining .pdf files, bringing our final response date to 1/3/24.

Please do not hesitate to contact FOIARequest@ilsos.gov<mailto:FOIARequest@ilsos.gov> with any questions. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Respectfully,

FOIA OFFICER
Illinois Secretary of State’s Office

Hi,

It looks like someone already received all of the flag submissions with substantially less redactions here:

Sanjin

From: Illinois Flag Commission

Dear Sanjin:

This is our formal response to your follow-up email below dated January 21, 2025, with respect to your December 17, 2025 request for: a copy of each flag submission, in JPEG, PNG or other appropriate digital format, with applicable redactions made if there is information about the submitter included with a submission. After reviewing and redacting private and personal information from the nearly 5,000 submissions pursuant to FOIA Sections 7(1)(b) and 7(1)(c), we responded with a link to the files on December 26, 2024. Then, on January 5, 2025, you indicated that you had access to the following file, available online, which contains all of the submissions and has less information redacted than the file we provided you with on December 26, 2024: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25471742-illinois-patch-2024-flag-design-submissions-foia_redacted/<https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25471742-illinois-patch-2024-flag-design-submissions-foia_redacted>. Because the foregoing link contains the flag submissions that you requested, that is the most efficient way for you to obtain the requested information, as opposed to us sending you a new link to the same document. (5 ILCS 140/8.5).

Respectfully,
