From:

Dear Mr. Petti:

This email is to acknowledge the receipt of and to respond to your FOIA request dated March 22, 2021. The Office of the Illinois Secretary of State received your request on March 30, 2021. We have reviewed your request and have determined that we will require a three business week extension of time within which we are to officially respond to your FOIA request. Our request for extension is based upon the extensive nature of your request that asks the Secretary of State to search electronic email communications for all Secretary of State employees for the period 12/1/2014 through the present. Given the nature of this request combined with the review requirement to insure compliance prior to release, makes your request impossible to complete within the 5 business day requirement under FOIA. Therefore, the Secretary of State respectfully requests an extension of time through April 26, 2021 within which it is to formally respond to your FOIA request. Our request is made pursuant to Sections 3(e)(ii), 3(e)(v), 3(e)(vi) and 3(e)(vii) of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act. [5 ILCS 140/3( e)(ii); 5 ILCS 140/3(e)(v); 5 ILCS 140/3(e)(vi); 5 ILCS 140/3(e)(vii)]. Should we complete the be able to compile and review the information prior to the expiration of the extended period, we will formally respond to your request at the time.

Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Sincerely,

Donna M. Leonard
Executive Counsel
Illinois Secretary of State
