Pursuant to ORS 192.314, which provides that every person has the right to inspect any nonexempt public record of a public body in Oregon, I am writing to request the following public records from the Josephine County Sheriff office:
Any records, including but not limited to email communication, phone logs, police reports, or text/sms messages, regarding the protest or "tree sit" in the Bureau of Land Management's Poor Windy project and the law enforcement response between April 1, 2024 and the date that this request is honored. Beyond just internal communication, I am requesting an relevant records regarding communication and coordination with federal agencies including but not limited to the Bureau of Land Management, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Homeland Security.
As an independent journalist, I request that any fees associated with honoring this request are waived, as access to these public records are in the public benefit and I will use my platforms to disseminate the records widely. These records are critical for public understanding of law enforcement perception and response to constitutionally protected protest.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
