To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the The Kansas Open Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

The records related to any offer to Kris Kobach "to be a White House adviser or a senior official at the Department of Homeland Security" and the records related to Kris Kobach accepting or declining such position.

On June 10, 2018 Kris Kobach was reported to have claimed to have "already turned down offers from President Donald Trump to be a White House adviser or a senior official at the Department of Homeland Security." http://www.cjonline.com/news/20180610/capitol-insider-podcast-kris-kobach-promises-cuts-says-aclu-wants-to-beat-kansas

This appears to be the first time any such job offer to Kobach has been reported. Please provide the records that reflect any such job offer and any response form Kobach. If Kobach was not offered a position with the DHS, the records reflecting that Kobach was not offered such a position would also suffice.

In terms of date range, we don't know when Kobach was purportedly offered such a position and when he supposedly turned it down. Accordingly, please search for records from November 1, 2016 to the date this FOIA request is processed.

I am a member of the news media and request to classified as such. I am writing on Kris Kobach's run for Governor of Kansas and need the documents requested to complete my writing. I am asking that this request be expedited because of the importance of the records involved, including the upcoming primary election in which Kobach is running as a candidate for the Republican's party's nominee for Governor for the State of Kansas.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 3 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Matthew Hoppock

Matthew,

This responds to three open records requests we received yesterday. We have no responsive documents. We searched the relevant office files, e-mails, etc, and found nothing. Since the subject matter of each request is not official state business, any communications by private means are not subject to the Kansas Open records Act.
