Dear Mr. Neidenbach,
On April 27, 2016, the University of Kansas (KU) received your email of the same date requesting records access pursuant to the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA). As required by KORA, the University is responding to your request within the third business day following its date of receipt.
Please note that all requests for public records are handled by the Custodian of Public Records and should be submitted according to the procedures established in our online brochure: https://provost.ku.edu/sites/provost.ku.edu/files/docs/brochure.pdf. Request letters should include your full contact information consisting of name, organization, mailing address, email address and phone number. Letters may be emailed to andyfoat@ku.edu<mailto:andyfoat@ku.edu> or mailed to my attention at the following address: Custodian of Public Records, University of Kansas, 250 Strong Hall, 1450 Jayhawk Blvd., Lawrence, KS 66045.
Your email states, in relevant part:
Pursuant to the Kansas Open Records Act (K.S.A. 45-215), I hereby request the following records:
Any emails to or from Orley Taylor that contain any of the following terms in any field; "stonyfield", “unfi", "naturespath", "ccof", "whitewave", "wholefoods", "organicvalley", "horizondairy", "mercola", "ruskin", "gillam", "malkan", "benbrook", "daniella silva","nongmoproject", "usrtk","centerforfoodsafety",or "bronners" from January 1, 2013 to present.
The University charges all requestors in advance for the time required to retrieve, review and produce records as allowed by K.S.A. §45-219(a). In this case, to accurately estimate the total amount of time necessary to retrieve, review and produce any responsive and available records, KU personnel must first conduct searches to retrieve any potentially responsive records. Once these records have been retrieved, we can provide an estimate of the remaining time necessary to review and produce responsive and available documents, if any. Our initial fee estimate is therefore as follows:
$25.00 .5 hours of specialized computer retrieval at $50/hour
======
$25.00 total initial fees
If you wish to proceed with the request, please send payment by check in the amount of the total initial fees and made payable to “The University of Kansas.” You may mail the check to my attention at the following address: Custodian of Public Records / The University of Kansas / 223 Strong Hall / 1450 Jayhawk Blvd. / Lawrence, KS 66045.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation.
Sincerely,
