Pursuant to the Florida Sunshine Law, I hereby request the following records:

I respectfully request access to public records related to the April 30, 2024 vehicle pursuit and arrest of Daniel Maxwell, which began in Levy County following a BOLO issued by the Chiefland Police Department and ended in Citrus County.

Specifically, I request the following:

All body-worn camera footage from deputies involved in the pursuit and arrest, particularly Deputy Nick Duncan and Deputy Kelly Kimpel.

All dash camera footage from LCSO vehicles engaged in the pursuit.

All rear-seat (in-cruiser) camera footage during Maxwell’s transport, if applicable.

A copy of any aerial footage, surveillance, or publicly released video, including the 90-second pursuit clip referenced in your May 1, 2024 press release.

Name: Daniel Maxwell

DOB: 11/23/1983

Date of Arrest: April 30, 2024

Time: Approx. 9:30 AM

Location: US 19 (north of Inglis) → Crystal River (via Citrus County)

Agencies Involved: Levy County Sheriff’s Office, Chiefland PD (BOLO), Citrus County Sheriff’s Office

Charges:

Aggravated Fleeing/Eluding Law Enforcement

Grand Theft Auto

Driving While License Suspended

According to the public press release, the pursuit spanned approximately 20 miles, involved speeds over 100 mph, use of stop sticks, and ended when Maxwell crashed into a tree after hitting a power pole and mailboxes. Deputy Duncan used his vehicle to block a door and prevent foot pursuit.

This request is made in the public interest, not for commercial use. The incident involves law enforcement tactics during a multi-county pursuit and questions of public safety and use of force. I respectfully request a waiver of all applicable fees and digital delivery of all responsive records.

If any part of this request is denied, please provide the legal basis under Chapter 119, F.S., and release any redacted, non-exempt portions.

Please confirm receipt and provide an estimated timeline for response.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you for contacting us. We have successfully received your records/public records request and will respond as soon as possible.

Requests for public records are processed in the order that they are received and can take up to 30 business days to be fulfilled and/or invoiced. Processing time may be longer due to the nature and extent of the request. The processing time may be affected by other business processes that have statutory and/or court ordered time limits for completion and, therefore, will take priority over a public records request.

Requests that require extensive clerical, information technology or supervisory assistance are charged at the rate of pay germane to that position and the Agency will be provide an invoice for the estimated costs associated with your request. Requestors will be charged for employee’s labor cost when the request takes 15 or more minutes to fulfill. This estimate must be paid prior to the start of any records production. Advance deposit may be required for extensive requests.

Deposits will not be returned for labor expended researching requests even if the search produces no responsive records.

Public records requests will be closed 30 days from the date of receipt if the requesting party fails to pay the estimated or final invoice or fails to respond to clarification inquiries pertaining to a public records request. Responses made in closed requests will not be answered. If you have previously received an estimated or final invoice and you have not paid the costs associated with that request, the Levy County Sheriff’s Office will not provide records for subsequent requests until such time as the past due amounts have been paid.

Chapter 119 of the Florida Statutes does not require an agency to create a record to satisfy a records request.
