From: Apoorvaa Mandar Bichu

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

Related to district HVAC systems for the last five years:

Maintenance records
inspection reports
air quality tests
capital improvement reports for all district schools

As background, this request is filed as part of a journalism project looking at HVAC systems across schools in the United States, and similar requests are being filed in additional school districts.

If you have summary reports or other documents that are likely to include largely similar information and are easier to provide, I’m willing to accept those as a substitute.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Apoorvaa Mandar Bichu

From: Los Angeles Unified School District

Hello:

This correspondence is in response to your California Public Records Act request dated January 13, 2022, seeking:

* Related to district HVAC systems for the last five years: Maintenance records, inspection reports, air quality tests, capital improvement reports for all district schools

Your request is currently being reviewed and the appropriate departments have been contacted to determine if disclosable records relevant to your request exist.

As required under California Government Code section 6253, the District will make a determination within 10 days as to whether or not a request is seeking records that are publicly disclosable and, if so, to provide the estimated date that the records will be made available. There is no requirement for a public agency to actually supply the records within 10 days of receiving a request, unless the requested records are readily available. Still, the District prides itself on always providing all publicly disclosable records in as timely a manner as possible.

Natalie Johnson is the assigned paralegal on this matter. Should you have any questions, please contact the Office of the General Counsel at (213) 241-7600 and reference the above-mentioned OGC Control number.

In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, all attorneys and staff in the Office of the General Counsel are working remotely. There is also limited access to the Beaudry building. Hence, we are not able to receive mail in a timely manner. Please send all correspondence, pleadings, discovery or other documents via email, or voluminous materials through a document sharing app. Thank you for your understanding and professional courtesy.

Hello,

Please be advised that we are still processing your PRA request and will notify you shortly as to when responsive records will be provided. While the PRA Unit makes every effort to respond to requests in a timely manner, due to the current health crisis and the District's effort to address its effects, productions have been delayed, as District employees have been deployed to perform critical functions at school sites.

We appreciate your continued patience during this unusually precarious time as the District and the nation addresses this crisis.

Thank you.
