All emails and memos about the Los Angeles Teachers Strike that lasted from January 14-20, 2019.
I am a career journalist with work that has appeared in various publications such as MuckRock, The Simmons Voice, and The Westwood Horizon. I am willing to pay any reasonable expenses associated with this request, however, as the purpose of the requested disclosure is in full conformity with the statutory requirements for a waiver of fees, I formally request such a waiver.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Hello Ms. Farkus,
Thank you for previously having narrowed the scope of your request in an attempt to make the search not unduly burdensome. The emails that remain are still voluminous (over 12,000 pages). Despite the narrowing of whose emails you requested be searched, the broad search terms result in the PRA request remaining unduly burdensome because it requests the production of an enormous volume of materials that must first be reviewed to determine whether each record is actually responsive to the request, or contains exempt and redactable data, etc. (California First Amendment Coalition v. Superior Ct. (1998) 67 Cal. App.4th 159, 166). The PRA Unit cannot simply produce the 12,000+ pages of emails without conducting a thorough review first. On the present PRA, it would require several members of the PRA Unit to devote the majority of their time to this one PRA to the exclusion of all others.
As this request has been open since 2/7/2019, I am writing to enquire as to whether these documents are still needed. If I do not hear from you by January 15, 2020 at 3pm to confirm your desire to still receive these documents, I will consider the request withdrawn and close this matter. If you do still wish for this request to proceed, no further work will be performed until we have communicated with you regarding narrowing the scope of the request. Please consider this a request to dramatically reduce and focus your PRA request. Please feel free to call me. My direct dial is below in the signature block.
Please let me know at your earliest convenience if you still wish to keep this matter open, and if so, how you propose to narrow the search to drastically reduce the volume of documents to be produced.
