Pursuant to the Georgia Open Records Act, I hereby request the following records:
1. the total number of use of force incidents, separated by year, from 2016-2020 (for example, 302 use of force incidents in 2016, 287 use of force incidents in 2017, etc.)
2. the total number of use of force incidents, separated by type of force and year used from 2016-2020 (for example, information that specifies the number of taser incidents in 2016, baton incidents in 2016, etc.). Please include as part of this a breakdown of how many use of force incidents in each year were related to law enforcement operations and how many were related to correctional/custodial operations.
When available, I would appreciate being sent individualized data for each item in this request in spreadsheet format. If individualized data are unavailable, please send information that includes aggregate statistics for the item instead.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 3 business days, as the statute requires.

Good afternoon,
Please accept this as a response to your request for records. Date of receipt for this request is 7/17/2023. Our office is not open over the weekend.
This request will require a lot of research for the time frame you have requested. There was no electronic format for these records before June of 2020. The estimated time is detailed in the fee schedule below. I have attached the information for June – December of 2020.
Payment is requested before release of information of the years 2016 – May 2020. Please respond back to this email if you wish to proceed.
Fees consist of the following for the documents:
Search and retrieval fee: 40 hours (first 15 minutes free) @ $15.38/hour = $611.36
Redaction of records: 300 copies @ $0.10/page = $30.00
Total: $641.36
The following payment methods are acceptable: Cash, Money Order, Cashier’s Check, Visa and Mastercard. If you wish to pay by credit card, you may contact the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office at 229-671-2900 to relay credit card information. Money Order/Cashier’s Check must be made payable to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and mailed to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, ATTN: Records, P O Box 667, Valdosta, GA 31603-0667.

Thank you for your request. I have attached a report that provides data for the years 2017 to 2019. Unfortunately, we no longer have access to information from 2016 as it has been removed due to our seven year retention schedule. Please note that we have already provided information for the year 2020. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.
