From: Paxtyn Merten

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:

Records since Sept. 1, 2008 pertaining to:
· All internal communications — including attachments — related to the dangers of Halloween candy, including discussion of Marijuana candy and other drug-infused, weapon-infused, or other dangerous or confiscated Halloween candy.
· All reports of incidents related to drug-infused or weapon-infused Halloween candy.
· All press releases and other documents, videos, and informational content produced by the agency for the public pertaining to drugged and weapon-infused Halloween candy.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Paxtyn Merten

Hello Ms. Merten:

I am in receipt of your request for information relative to the dangers of Halloween candy. I am currently conducting a search for this information from various groups within the organization. At this point, I do not have any responsive documents. Does your request for internal communications contemplate Department user emails? Please advise.

Ms. DeAngelis,

Yes, my request is intended to include communications via email on this topic between members of the department. Those could potentially be emails that contain the words "marijuana candy halloween", "cannabis candy halloween", "drug candy halloween", "weapons candy halloween", or "danger candy halloween".

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Paxtyn

Thank for your response. I am requesting a search of those search terms be performed by an external IT office. As this is an amended request, I am extending the deadline for response to 11/15. However, if possible, I will have a response prepared for your review before that time. Thank you again for reaching out.

Hello Ms. Merten:

I have requested an email search based on the exact parameters outlined below. So far, I do not have any responsive documents. I do have one Academy Trainer that went out on October 31, 2018, but I am waiting for a response from our Academy to get you the final version because I only have the draft.

In the meantime, I am waiting for the final email search to come through from our IT Department before I can begin to prepare the Department’s formal response to your request. I am therefore requesting an extension to November 16, which is tomorrow, to comply with your request. I believe that the emails searches will have been completed by then. Please let me know if you are amenable to this extension request.

Thank you,
