To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
All memos, budgets, proposed budgets, presentations, and emails from the dates 01/01/2012 to 04/09/18 mentioning the use of, spending on, and/or consideration of bulletproof shelters for use in schools in the state.
An example of one such company that produces bulletproof shelters is the company called Shelter in Place (http://shelterinplace.com/pricing), mentioned in this local media report, among others covered in the press in various states: http://abc7ny.com/is-this-bulletproof-school-shelter-the-new-normal/3160640/
I am a member of the press and therefore request that fees be waived.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.
Sincerely,
Erik Franco

Mr. Franco,
Thank you for inquiring about your request. I have searched my mailbox, and we have no record of an May 6th request. I'm not sure what happened with that.
I also see you sent on Aug 2nd, which I did have in my mailbox. I was out of office from Aug 1 - Aug 10. My automated reply would have directed you to contact Jennifer Cook in my absence. Since this came through Muckrock, you may not have received my out-of-office reply.
So, your request is received, and we will begin to process immediately. If you have any question regarding MDE's FOIA process or your request, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best,
