Hello John,
Would you be able to produce the first 100 pages of emails? I would be willing to narrow my request down to that. Also happy to talk on the phone about ways to make this easier for you.

From: Matthew Petti
Hello John,
As I mentioned in my initial email, I am looking for emails related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In particular, I am interested in emails related to the Israeli flag raising that was planned for Votee Park on May 23, 2021 but later cancelled, and the pro-Palestinian rally that took place outside of Town Hall on May 22, 2021. Let me know if you need any more detail.
Best regards,
Matthew Petti

Good Afternoon,
Thank you for getting back to us. In regards to your original request email:
"Any and all emails containing the non-case-sensitive keystrings "Israel," "Palestine," "Palestinian," "Aqsa," and/or "Jerusalem" sent to or from one or more Teaneck Police Department officials/employees/staff between April 14, 2021 and the date this request is processed."
We are asking for you to narrow the search in regards to topics that you listed, specific individuals for to/from, and time period in order to narrow the volume of emails. Please advise how you will like us to proceed in a narrowed search. Thank you.

Dear Kristen,
I would like to keep the keywords and senders/receipients the same. I will narrow the timeframe to dates between April 14, 2021 and April 28, 2021. Also, have you removed duplicate emails? If not, you may do so. For example, if there’s 1 email from Chief O'Reilly that went to 15 people, I only need 1 copy, not 15.
Best regards,
Matthew

Good morning.
We never received guidance from you on senders/recipients. We have your keywords and dateframe noted. Is it possible you can name specific agents to help us better locate records responsive to your request?

Dear Clerk Ruccione,
Apologies for the long delay — I was looking through old emails and just found this one. Would it work to narrow the request to the emails of Chief O'Reilly and all bureau heads in the department?

Dear Clerk Ruccione,
I have already narrowed the date range to the dates between April 14, 2021 and April 28, 2021, and provided specific senders/recipients. How long would it take to fulfill the request as is?
Best regards,
Matthew
From: Teaneck Police Department
Sorry Matthew I didn't remember off hand if you did or not...this is a year old. We will be treating this as a new request.
To confirm:
dates: 4/14/21 - 4/28/21
keywords: "Israel," "Palestine," "Palestinian," "Aqsa,", "Jerusalem"
sender/recipient: Police Chief & "bureau heads"; we interpret this to mean whoever was in a superior, administrative position at this time frame - this may have changed since then. We may need to ask you to clarify further but will let you know.
Please give us seven business days to respond. Thank you.

Mr. Petti:
Do we have your permission to narrow the search below to just:
sent/received by the Police Chief
We are having a hard time narrowing down "bureau heads". I do assume that superiors are receiving the same things as the Chief. Unless you can narrow specific officers/agents, I do not see how to make this more efficient.

Dear Doug,
According to the Teaneck Police Department website, there's several bureaus: https://www.teanecknj.gov/police-bureaus
I'm interested in the police chief, the highest-ranking officer in the Community Policing Bureau, the highest-ranking officer in the Detective Bureau, the highest-ranking officer in the Juvenile Bureau, the highest-ranking officer in the Professional Standards Unit, the highest-ranking officer in the Service Bureau, and the highest-ranking officer in the Traffic Bureau.
Are you unable to narrow that down?
Best regards,
Matthew

That clarification of which departments actually helps us a lot. We will be in touch with questions, if any. Thank you!
