From: Taylor Amarel
To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
I would like to obtain all emails sent to, from, or copied to Phil Mendelson from January 1, 2016 to Present day containing any of the following non-case-sensitive key-strings: "Trump" or "Kushner"
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.
Sincerely,
Taylor Amarel

Hi Taylor,
I am in receipt of your faxed FOIA request for all emails in the account of Council Chairman Phil Mendelson from 1/1/16-present that contain the terms "Trump" or "Kushner". While you request is limited to one person, it is likely that there will be an overwhelming number of emails containing these terms. For one, any news emails are likely to contain the terms on a near-daily basis over the given timeframe, for another, President Trump's focus on issues affecting DC (for example, his attempt at holding a military parade and his July 4 celebration on the National Mall) are likely to come up in a large number of emails. Is it possible to work with you to narrow down the search or combine these terms with other terms that would naturally serve to narrow the request. Your help would be appreciated.
Best,
Brackett

Hello,
Thank you very much for the prompt and detailed explanation.
To avoid excessive newsletter or news like emails, you may restrict the search to only emails that were sent by Phil Mendelson.
Thank you.

To Whom It May Concern:
I wanted to follow up on the following Freedom of Information Act request, copied below, and originally submitted on July 28, 2019. Please let me know when I can expect to receive a response.
Thanks for your help, and let me know if further clarification is needed.

Hi Taylor,
Please find the Council's response attached.
Additionally, you sent me a separate request for all Mendelson emails that mention you. Your emails have been coming through our fax and I must confess that I have misplaced the fax. Would you be able to resend the request so that I know what email address to send the response to? Additionally, is it possible to direct communications to bsmith@dccouncil.us<mailto:bsmith@dccouncil.us> instead of our fax?
Let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Brackett
