From: Daniel Boguslaw

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

All emails in the date range 4/01/2024-5/16/2024 between members of the UCLA office of emergency management and email addresses ending in dhs.gov and/or fbi.gov.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Daniel Boguslaw

From:

Dear Daniel Boguslaw,

In your attached requests, we found them to be vague and overbroad as to the documents you are requesting. In an effort to provide you with the specific records that will be most helpful to you, by way of this e-mail, we ask for your assistance in clarifying and narrowing your request.

UCLA does not operate on a centralized system, and as such, we must reach out to a custodian directly. We are not able to search in a centralized system for all University records (or the records of an entire department such as UCLA police department) to figure out who may be the holder of a certain document or email.

Because your request currently lists no names of UCLA staff whose records you specifically seek, we request that you specify UCLA staff names and/or titles. Otherwise, we are not able to conduct a search for records.

We will keep your requests open for 10 business days from the date of this email.

For any requests for public records of UCLA made pursuant to the California Public Records Act, please submit them all directly to the Information Practices office, as we are the department at UCLA tasked with processing such. This helps to minimize delays, ensures that nothing slips through the cracks, and eliminates any overlap for the same requested records. You have apparently made multiple requests to multiple departments, such as the Office of the Chancellor and the UCLA Police Department, and it appears that there is considerable overlap of the requests. Please submit all your clarified requests into one email to records@ucla.edu<mailto:records@ucla.edu> in order to minimize delays.
Best Regards,

UCLA Information Practices

Hello,

I would like to narrow my request to all emails in the date range 4/01/2024-5/16/2024 between Lisa Martin, Jon Mcintosh, Amanda Ogden, Tylor Headrick and email addresses ending in dhs.gov and/or fbi.gov.

From: Ucla Office Of Emergency Management

Dear Daniel,

Thank you for your email below. Our understanding is that you wish to narrow the three requests into the single request below. Can you please confirm this?
Thanks,

Hey Robert,

I'm not seeing this final request. Would you be able to send it again?

All my best,
Dan

Hi Daniel,

Attached are the three requests we had received from you via Muckrock. Can you please confirm that you wish to narrow the three requests into the single request below, if that is the case?

Thank you,

Robert Baldridge

Hey Robert,

Those three requests came through as attachments but in terms of this final request I am still not seeing anything on my end. Could you send the final compilation as an attachement?

From: Ucla Office Of Emergency Management

Hi Dan,

We’re not sure what you mean by “final request”. Is that the clarification you provided on June 6th, as written again here below?:

“I would like to narrow my request to all emails in the date range 4/01/2024-5/16/2024 between Lisa Martin, Jon Mcintosh, Amanda Ogden, Tylor Headrick and email addresses ending in dhs.gov and/or fbi.gov.”
We have not yet logged that because it wasn’t clear if that was to replace one, two, or all three of your requests. That’s why I had asked if you wanted to narrow the three requests into one new single request. Is that the case?
Best,
Robert

From: Daniel Boguslaw

I see,

Yes Robert, that makes sense. Let's narrow it to that one. Thank you for your patience.

All my best,
Dan
