From: Reclaim The Records

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the New York State Freedom of Information Law (1977 N.Y. Laws ch. 933), I hereby request the following records:

Please provide an inventory list of all of the surviving voter registers (lists of enrolled voters) for the borough of Manhattan for the year 1924, i.e. the number of volumes, and which Assembly District(s) and Election District(s) each volume covers. The books are very likely stored off-site in a warehouse, and are not known to have been microfilmed. A basic inventory of the books for this year does not seem to be available online.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Phyllis Kramer, Genealogist

Ms. Kramer:

The Municipal Reference Library collection includes the List of Registered Voters for the Year 1924. It was published by The City Record. The name of each voter (first name and last name) is recorded by street address. The addresses are listed by Assembly and Election District. The volume contains enrolled voters in all five Boroughs, including Manhattan (24 Assembly Districts). You are welcome to examine the List. Please contact me (kcobb@records.nyc.gov<mailto:kcobb@records.nyc.gov>) if you wish to do so.

I am supplying this information as a courtesy. It is not necessary to FOIL cataloging or other information pertaining to publications or records held by the Municipal Library or Municipal Archives.

Sincerely,
Kenneth Cobb
