Pursuant to the New York Freedom of Information Law, I hereby request the following records:
Any database or other records that contain number of students in elementary and middle schools that receive free or reduced-price meal and/or milk benefits since January 1, 2009, having the following fields:
name of school
population of students in school
number of students receiving free meal
number of students receiving reduced-price meal or milk
annual funding for each school
number of teachers per school
This request is being made as part of my master’s project at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism where I am working on a deeply reported data-driven story on the connection between early childhood development and educational opportunities. The story will be made available on the university’s projects archive and may likely be published by a major news outlet.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
