FOIA & Public Records News

Masks Aren't The Only Thing Disappearing In Michigan (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk3MH9W5PQGY76xvM-8W5FXZVq8V9lTtVkZjZ25Z75GDdBzP8N04 ) - So are FOIA request extensions. Thanks to Governor Whitmer vetoing HB 4448, agencies are no longer able to extend public records requests made through the Michigan Freedom of Information Act. It’s a big step back toward normalcy in government transparency.

Every Day Will Be Picture Day (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk3MH9W5PQGY76xvM-8W5FXZVq8V9lTtVkZjZ25Z75GDdBzP8P04 ) - At least it is if you live in Federal Way, Washington. A few weeks ago, city council approved plans to start outfitting police officers with body cameras by January 1, 2022. The council hopes this will improve trust and transparency in the community.

Getting The House In Order (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk3MH9W5PQGY76xvM-8W5FXZVq8V9lTtVkZjZ25Z75GDdBzP8Q04 ) - Jasper County, Iowa recently established written guidelines for handling public records requests. Jasper County Attorney Scott Nicholson says he put the plan forward to try and reconcile the different processes that different agencies were using so that requesting records would become more streamlined across the board.

What's New At NextRequest?

Big News: NextRequest has been acquired (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk3MH9W5PQGY76xvM-8W5FXZVq8V9lTtVkZjZ25Z75GDdBzP8R04 ) by our friends at ArchiveSocial. We’re still the same company, only things are about to get a whole lot better. By joining forces with ArchiveSocial, we can offer complete public records coordination, processing, and request management capabilities to empower and protect the unencumbered flow of public information.

Blog: To help the world get back to a new normal, the government created the American Recovery Plan Act. We've boiled the Act down (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk3MH9W5PQGY76xvM-8W5FXZVq8V9lTtVkZjZ25Z75GDdBzP8S04 ) to exactly what you need to know to get the funds that will help your agency get back up and running to the highest capacity.

Blog: Law enforcement agencies sometimes think they have to choose between and RMS system and a FOIA solution, but we think there is a major advantage to having both. Here’s why (https://iy.t.hubspotemail.net/e2t/sc2/MmZ-8yk3MH9W5PQGY76xvM-8W5FXZVq8V9lTtVkZjZ25Z75GDdBzP8T04 ) .

Just For Fun

We like to think of our joining forces with ArchiveSocial as building a bridge between two great companies. And while that bridge is completely metaphorical, do you know which U.S. city has the most actual bridges?
