Pursuant to the South Dakota Open Records Law, I hereby request the following records:
Medical records related to the death of Floyd Joseph Slow Bear (DOB 1/9/67), who died in custody at the Pennington County Jail on 1/31/23
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

The Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office has received your request for information. Per South Dakota Codified Law (SDCL 1-27-1.5), Records that are developed or received by law enforcement agencies are exempt from public records that are open to inspection and copying.
If your request is regarding an officer involved shooting, you will need to contact the Division of Criminal Investigation for your request.
You may file a written notice of review with the Office of Hearing Examiners per SDCL 1-27-38.
