RE: Public Records Request of December 22, 2024, Reference # S004847-122224
Dear Maxine Doogan,
On December 22, 2024, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office received your request for records pursuant to the California Public Records Act (CPRA) wherein you requested the following: Other
Additional clarification is needed in order to fulfill your request:
Can you specify the type of contract, reports, financial documents, or MOUs you seek? Is there a specific Unit/Division, task force, type of grant, or type of service you are seeking records for?
Additionally, the San Diego County Sheriff's Office conducted a preliminary search of email communication and identified 598,684 potential items. Your request would be an overly burdensome task that would likely support a denial pursuant to Government Code section 7922.000. Pursuant to Government Code section 7922.000, an agency may withhold a record if the agency demonstrates that on the facts of the case, the public interest served by not disclosing the record clearly outweighs the public interest served by disclosure of the record. This includes the "expense and inconvenience involved in segregating nonexempt from exempt information." American Civil Liberties Union Foundation v. Deukmejian, 32 Cal. 3d 440, 452-453 (1982).
We encourage you to work with the Sheriff's Office towards making a focused and effective request for non-exempt records. Are you able to narrow the time range, email domains, or the type of document(s) you are seeking that would help narrow the request?
A reply must be received within ten (10) business days of the date this email was sent or your request will be closed and a new request will be required. Please respond in writing via the Records Request System.
Upon receipt of your response, the Sheriff's Office will further respond to your request as required by law.
Sincerely,
Erica Duarte San Diego County Sheriff's Office
