Re: Public Records Request dated December 1, 2016
Dear Ms. Fowler:
This letter responds to your Public Records Request sent to the Mayor’s office via email on December 1, 2016. In your request, you ask for the following from the Mayor’s Office:
1. “Any email messages and/or attachments sent or received on the San Francisco mayor's email accounts between January 1, 2016 and present that concern or make mention of any of the following topics:
-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)
-The 2016 Presidential election on November 8th, 2016
-Sanctuary cities”
Response dated December 12, 2016:
On December 5, 2016, our office emailed you requesting clarification regarding two aspects of your request. First, we asked what you meant by “the San Francisco mayor’s email accounts.” Specifically, we asked whether you were referring only to the Mayor’s email account, which is MayorEdwinLee@sfgov.org<mailto:MayorEdwinLee@sfgov.org>, or to the individual email accounts of staff members within the Mayor’s Office. Second, we asked if you could be more specific in regards to the topic “The 2016 Presidential election on November 8th, 2016” since that is a very broad category.
To date, we have not received any response from you to our December 5 request for clarification. Accordingly, we have conducted a search of the MayorEdwinLee@sfgov.org<mailto:MayorEdwinLee@sfgov.org> email account only, and we are providing all responsive records we have located attached to this email. Please contact our office if you would like to clarify the scope of your request, or submit another request.
Please note that we are responding on behalf of the Mayor’s Office only, and not on behalf of other City departments.
Please note that some parts of the records being provided to you were legally redacted to remove individuals’ personal phone numbers and personal email addresses. We are required to do so to protect the privacy interests of those individuals. Withholding information to protect privacy is authorized under California Constitution, Article I, section 1, and California Government Code Sections 6254(k) and 6254(c) (authorizing the withholding of records the disclosure of which would constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy). See, also, California Government Code Section 6250 and Section 67.1(g) of the San Francisco Sunshine Ordinance (legislative findings on the right of individuals to privacy).
If you have any questions regarding your request or would like to send another sunshine request, please do not hesitate to contact the Mayor’s Office at mayorsunshinerequests@sfgov.org<mailto:mayorsunshinerequests@sfgov.org>.
Sincerely,
