Hi Rose,
I have run an email search with Daniel Auderer and the members of the public affairs unit as participants between 8/2/23-9/6/23 -- and have reviewed approximately 379 emails and their attachments, and have not located any responsive records thus far.  Additionally, I have emailed SPD's public affairs unit directly to determine if they had any records or knowledge of records that would be responsive to this request -- and I am waiting to hear back from everyone on this.
At this time, you can expect your first installment of records to be produced on or before 3/22/24.
Thank you,
Margaret Brandon

Dear Rose Terse,

The purpose of this communication is to provide a status update regarding your request.
The Seattle Police Department needs additional time to respond to your request due to the following:
I have checked with Public Affairs, Officer Auderer's chain of command, and reviewed approximately 1000 emails to attempt to locate a record of a discussion and approval for the Rantz interview and have not located any responsive records.
I will continue my search and you can expect any records that I locate on or before 8/9/24.
Thank you,
Margaret Brandon

RE: Public Disclosure Request#: P152300-091423

Dear Rose Terse,

This communication is in response to your public disclosure request received on September 14, 2023.
We do not have a record or the ability to readily create a record that contains the information you are seeking. The Public Record Act does not require us to perform research projects or develop data for information requests. RCW 42.56.080.
Good Morning Rose,
After an extensive search, we have determined that there are no records responsive to your request.  I ran several email searches with the keywords "Jason Rantz" or "Interview" as the keywords -- and in my review I did not locate any records between Officer Auderer and public affairs regarding this interview.  Additionally, I followed up with public affairs and Officer Auderer's chain of command directly -- and both parties indicated that they did not speak with Officer Auderer about this interview prior.
Officer Auderer is on administrative leave at this time -- and we cannot reach out to him directly to ask about this at this time.
As such, SPD has no records responsive to your request and this PDR is closed.
Thank you,
Margaret Brandon
If you wish to appeal the search, production, or application of any exemption in connection with this request you may submit an appeal in writing to the Seattle Police Legal Unit within ten (10) business days from the date you received your records.
Please include your name and address, a copy of any redacted files, and a copy of this letter together with a brief statement identifying the basis of the appeal.
Please mail or deliver your appeal to:
