Pursuant to the South Carolina Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:
Related to district HVAC systems for the last five years:
Maintenance records
inspection reports
air quality tests
capital improvement reports for all district schools
As background, this request is filed as part of a journalism project looking at HVAC systems across schools in the United States, and similar requests are being filed in additional school districts.
If you have summary reports or other documents that are likely to include largely similar information and are easier to provide, I’m willing to accept those as a substitute.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 15 business days, as the statute requires.

Good Morning-
The District is in receipt of your FOIA request which was sent via USPS on January 13, 2022. In this letter, you specifically requested “records related to the district HVAC systems for the last five years: maintenance records, inspection reports, air quality tests, capital improvement reports for all district schools.” This request is extremely broad and encompasses more than 5,000 records. Therefore, pursuant to SC Code 30-4-30(A)(1), you are welcome to review, inspect, and copy these records at our District Office located at 815 N. Main Street Summerville, SC. Should you wish to do so, please contact our Public Information Office to set an appointment. In addition, please note that these records must be reviewed and redacted prior to inspection.
