Hello,

I am following up once again on this FOIL request. The request was for "all final investigative reports compiled by the Internal Affairs Bureau regarding complaints against Suffolk County Police Department Detective Ronald Tavares."

It has now been nearly eight months since I submitted it. I wasn't even provided a tracking number. Please provide an update.

Chris Gelardi

Chris,

First and foremost, allow me to apologize for the inordinate delay and response to your request, which was submitted in July of 2022; your request was received, but it appears that it was not properly acknowledged. That being said, I offer my sincerest apology.

The Suffolk County Police Department, as you may know, suffered a crippling "cyber event" in September of 2022; some of our systems were offline until January of 2023, and some still remain offline.

The request for all IAB Complaints involving former Suffolk Detective Ronald Tavares was forwarded to I.A.B., however, as stated above, their systems were impacted by the "cyber event" as well.

I assure you that your request is pending and ask that you remain patient while we work through the requests in the order of receipt. As, I am sure you can appreciate, there is a significant backlog of requests due to the cyber event.

If you have any questions or wish to amend, modify or rescind your request, please do so in writing.

Thank you, in advance, for your anticipated consideration.

Regards,
Janine Keleghan

Chris,

I can only apologize on behalf of the department, I am not in control of the I.A.B. records and cannot speak to the specific backlog in I.A.B., but I will follow up with them again this morning to see if I can get you an update.

I will get back to you once I hear from I.A.B.
Thanks,
Janine
