Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:
1. The total number of police uses of force in 2018, broken down by type of force used (i.e. number of uses of tasers, number of uses of baton, etc.)
2. The total number of use of force complaints reported by civilians in 2018
3. The total number of use of force complaints reported by civilians that were sustained in 2018
4. All arrests data reported to the California Department of Justice via the Monthly Arrests and Citation Register program covering arrests made in 2017 and 2018, including (but not limited to) the age, race/ethnicity, gender, offense category (felony, misdemeanor, status offense), charge and disposition of arrestees.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Hello,
Pertaining to your request #1 for the total number of police uses of force in 2018, broken down by type of force used (i.e. number of uses of tasers, number of uses of baton, etc.), please see attached excel spreadsheet for data requested.
Pertaining to your request #2 for the total number of use of force complaints reported by civilians in 2018, there was one complaint from a citizen.
Pertaining to your request #3 for the total number of use of force complaints reported by civilians that were sustained in 2018, the complaint from a citizen mentioned above was sustained.
Pertaining to your request #4 for all arrests data reported to the California Department of Justice via the Monthly Arrests and Citation Register program covering arrests made in 2017 and 2018, including (but not limited to) the age, race/ethnicity, gender, offense category (felony, misdemeanor, status offense), charge and disposition of arrestees, please see attached redacted 2017 & 2018 MACR Arrests PDF files for responsive record. Juvenile names and partial DOBs were redacted from the list. Incidents that didn't meet certain criteria such as infraction charges only were redacted from the lists prior to submitting to DOJ. Below is a guide to help you decipher the numeric abbreviations on the lists. Please let me know if you have any questions.
SEX: 1 - Male
2 - Female
LVL: 1 - Juvenile arrested on a 777 W&I probation hold only
2 - Highest level of crime is Misdemeanor
3 - Highest level of crime is Felony
STAT: 1 - Cited: Arrested via criminal citation or Juvenile Contact Report (JCR) and released in the field
2 - Booked: Formally arrested, fingerprinted and photographed, Then taken to County Jail or released on their own recognizance
DSP: 1 - Detention Only - Released per CA Penal Code 849(b) PC
2 - Turned over to another agency (Typically: Outside agency warrant-only arrest)
3 - Misdemeanor on-view charge
4 - Felony on-view charge
5 - Juvenile Court (Handled through juvenile services)
6 - Detention, Juvenile only - 849(b) PC
