Pursuant to the Washington Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:
1) For each grade level (or classroom, if not available at grade level), data showing the amount of time students spent on math lessons in the IReady system for the year to date. This data can be accessed through the IReady system's lesson time-on-task feature. 2) For each grade level (or classroom, if not available at grade level), data showing the amount of time students spent playing learning games in the IReady system for the year to date. This data can be accessed through the IReady system's "Playtime" report. Please note: I am not requesting data for individual students, but rather aggregate and/or average data at the grade or classroom level.
If you have any questions about this request, including questions about the timeframe or scope of the data, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm happy to set up a time to discuss this request over the phone.
I ask that all fees be waived as I am a journalist and intend to used the requested records to publish articles in the public interest and not for any commercial purpose.
If you choose to impose fees, I request a detailed breakdown of the fees, including the hourly wage of each employee involved and an explanation of the employee hours required to fulfill the request.
If you choose to reject this request or redact portions of responsive documents, I ask that you provide a detailed breakdown of the statutory exemptions and associated case law underlying your decision to withhold each/any portions from public review.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Dear Mr. Feathers:
This letter acknowledges and responds to your public records request received by the Tacoma School District on March 18, 2024. It is my understanding that you are seeking the following records:
1) For each grade level (or classroom, if not available at grade level), data showing the amount of time students spent on math lessons in the IReady system for the year to date. This data can be accessed through the IReady system's lesson time-on-task feature.
2) For each grade level (or classroom, if not available at grade level), data showing the amount of time students spent playing learning games in the IReady system for the year to date.
We are currently searching for records and I estimate that it will take approximately 30 Days to prepare records located that are responsive to your request. This estimate is based on the number of previously pending public records requests that our office is responding to, the time needed to locate and assemble the records requested, the need to determine whether any of the records are exempt from public disclosure, as well as other work for which I am responsible. I will contact you on or about April 22, 2024 regarding the status of your request.

Hello Mr. Feathers,
We are seeking clarification for part two of your request.
Because the size of our district, using the report you suggested is problematic because it is per teacher. We have reached out to IREADY . There is no aggregate or disaggregated learning games data . They have asked the following:
* Will year-to-date Playtime in Leaning Games for each grade/each school be sufficient?
* In terms of YTD Playtime data, will you want average playtime per student or total playtime (minutes) per grade?
Please provide this clarification as soon as possible so that we can get you the requested information.

Hi Joey,
I'm looking for the average YTD playtime per student in each grade. I've attached an example of the records another district provided in response to an identical request, in case that's helpful. The last page has playtime data. I don't believe they had to pull it one class at a time.
And just to clarify: This isn't your district/school staff who are pulling the data classroom by classroom, right? Because I don't want to be putting that burden on folks and can adjust my request if necessary.
