Pursuant to the California Public Records Act (California Government Code §§ 6250), I hereby request the following records:

- A list of all arrest-related deaths during incidents involving Taft PD officers since 2004.
- A list of all homicides by Taft PD officers since 2004.
- A list of all officer-involved shootings by Taft PD officers since 2004.
- A list of all complaints made by civilians against Taft PD officers alleging excessive or inappropriate use of force since 2004, including outcomes of any subsequent inquiries.

In each case, please provide as much detail as is possible, including but not limited to: date of incident, street address of incident, identities/ages/sexes/races of the deputies and civilians involved, weapons used, circumstances of incident, police incident report or officer's narrative.

If fulfilling part of this request should delay your expected response time, please do not wait until all the information is available but rather release elements as they become available.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or DVD/CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Please find the information below responsive to your request.

- A list of all arrest-related deaths during incidents involving Taft PD officers since 2004. There were none.
- A list of all homicides by Taft PD officers since 2004. There were none.
- A list of all officer-involved shootings by Taft PD officers since 2004. There was one - information provided below:
April 2008
Sgt. Mike Eveland, a white male officer, shot and killed a white male subject in the 300 blk of “F” Street in Taft CA. 93268. The suspect fired on Sgt. Eveland from inside of his house and Sgt. Eveland returned fire and killed the suspect. Suspect fired (9) shots and Sgt. Eveland fired (6) shots. Cleared by a shooting review board after a thorough investigation by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office – Bureau of Investigation. The City of Taft does not have the report since it was accomplished by the District Attorney. If you wish the report you will have to make a records request to them.

- A list of all complaints made by civilians against Taft PD officers alleging excessive or inappropriate use of force since 2004, including outcomes of any subsequent inquiries. There were none.
