Communications

From: Matt Bernardini

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

All records reflecting communications (including emails, email attachments, text messages, messages on messaging platforms (such as Slack, GChat or Google Hangouts, Lync, Skype, or WhatsApp), telephone call logs, calendar invitations, calendar entries, meeting notices, meeting agendas, informational material and notes taken during oral communications) between Joe Oltmann, Matthew DePerno and former Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Robert A. Destro. I am requesting records from November 2, 2020 until January 7, 2021.

I am requesting that this request be expedited due to the serious nature of the communications. The Washington Post has reported that Mr. Destro met with Oltmann and DePerno on January 6th. Oltmann and DePerno had been involved with several events leading up to the Capitol Riot. For them to meet a State Department employee is highly unusual and the public has a right to know what prior communications they had.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Matt Bernardini
