The Executive Office for United States Attorneys (EOUSA) has received your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)/Privacy Act request. Your request has been assigned tracking number 02144EOUSA-2019-003239.  Please use this number in all future correspondence.
Your request seeks records from one or more field offices, involves many voluminous records, or requires consultation with another agency or component with a substantial interest in the subject-matter and therefore falls within “unusual circumstances” as set forth in the statue. See 5 U.S.C.S § 552(a)(6)(B)(i)-(iii).  Accordingly, we are extending the time limit to respond to our request for ten additional days. See 5 U.S.C. § 552(a)(6)(B))(i).  In addition, this Office assigns incoming requests to one of three tracks: simple, complex, or expedited.  Each request is then handled on a first-in, first-out basis in relation to other requests in the same track.  Simple requests usually receive a response in approximately 30 business days, whereas complex requests necessarily take longer.  At this time, your request has been assigned to the complex track.
Under FOIA and Department of Justice regulations you may be required to pay certain costs associated with processing your request, including, searching for, reviewing, and duplicating requested records.  Consequently, you may potentially incur those costs, unless you have requested and been granted a waiver or reduction in fees.  In most instances, the first 100 pages to duplicate and the first two hours to search for records responsive to your request, will be provided to you free of charge.  If after making those allowances, we determine that the cost to process your request will amount to more than $25.00, we will notify you in writing at a later date. [1]  Requests that are specific, concrete and of limited scope (in time and/or subject matter) generally enable us to respond to you more quickly and possibly assess less fees.  To avoid delay and reduce any potential fees, we suggest you might wish to modify and narrow the scope of your request (See attachment). In response to your September 20, 2024 e-mailed status inquiry. This is to advise you that We have received a large quantity of potentially responsive records from the U.S. Attorney's Office and are in the process of reviewing those records to determine which pages are non-exempt and may be disclosed in full or in part. We cannot readily predict how much longer that process will take. If you wish to narrow the scope of your request, perhaps that would shorten our response time.

That request was closed with the attached partial release letter and 1,073 pages of documents on November 5, 2024. The letter and documents were transmitted in four e-mails containing relatively equal numbers of pages of documents, all to the above e-mail address on that date.
