To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

Any and all questions sent from any inspector general to any State Department officials about Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's decision in October 2020 to release some of the emails that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sent and received on her official State Department email account using a private server during her time as Secretary of State.

Specifically, I am seeking any and all questions from any inspector general to any State Department officials that indicate a concern that by deciding to release Secretary Clinton's emails in question so close to the presidential election on November 3, 2020, Secretary Pompeo is improperly interfering in the presidential election, with the apparent intent of improving President Donald Trump's chances of winning re-election.

Secretary Clinton was the Democratic Party's nominee for president in 2016, and she narrowly lost the 2016 presidential election to President Trump. In 2016, before that year's presidential election, the then-current director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, James Comey, decided that Secretary Clinton's actions with respect to the emails did not warrant criminal charges. However, the controversy over Secretary Clinton's emails was a factor in her loss to President Trump.

On October 9, 2020, the New York Times reported that Secretary Pompeo had decided to release some of the emails in question before the presidential election on November 3, 2020 between President Trump and the Democratic nominee, former Vice President Joe Biden. According to the Times article, "[Secretary Pompeo] made no effort to suggest that releasing them was unconnected to the political campaign. 'We’re doing it as fast as we can,' he added. 'I certainly think there’ll be more to see before the election.'"
