Dear JPat Brown,

I am writing as a follow up to your email of November 27, 2017 to
foia@nara.gov asking for status update to request #F-2017-02567 originally
submitted September 21, 2017.

Unfortunately, The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has
no record of this request and the FOIA case tracking number you cite is not
a number we generate or use. I am not sure who you made this request to,
but you will have to contact that agency directly for a status update.

If you believe NARA has custody of the records you seek, you can submit
your request to our reference department (archives2reference@nara.gov) for
a search or submit a FOIA request to specialaccess_foia@nara.gov.

Sincerely,

Jessie Hartman

Government Information Specialist

Special Access and FOIA Staff

From: JPat Brown

Ms. Hartman, hello!
Apologies for the confusion - that tracking number was left over from when I originally filed this request with the CIA, who then directed me to NARA. If it's easiest for you, I'd be happy to consider this a new request.
Thanks again,
JPat

This is an automated reply to inform you that National Archives and Records Administration received your e-mail.

If this is a reference request regarding records in the John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection, you must contact our Textual Records Reference Division at archives2reference@nara.gov.

If this is a FOIA request, we are currently assessing your FOIA to determine which organization within NARA can best respond. Once your FOIA is properly routed, our goal is to provide you with a reply within 20 working days* that will either resolve your request or inform you of your FOIA case number and the current status. We will contact you at this e-mail address if we require more information in order to proceed.

Thank You.

*According to the FOIA the 20 working days begins when the FOIA is received by the appropriate component of the agency and is calculated excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and legal public holidays.

A no responsive documents response.

From: National Archives and Records Administration

Dear JPat Brown,

I apologize for the delay you are experiencing in receiving access to the
records you requested and appreciate your understanding.

You requested a status update on RD 58234, a request our office received on
August 22, 2018 and to which we initially replied on September 7, 2018. The
request was assigned to our Tier 2 processing queue for review.

To give you an indication of our existing backlog for cases in Tier 2,
there are *approximately 211 cases* ahead of yours. Unfortunately, the
COVID-19 pandemic has created many unprecedented challenges in our work.
The majority of the records that our customers request require our staff to
be on-site to search for and review microfilm, microfiche, or original
textual records. Staffing levels on-site have been severely limited with
long periods where our facility was closed. Even as we expand our
reopening, operations may be temporarily curtailed due to limited staffing
and/or deteriorating local health conditions. We are currently processing
requests received in June 2014.

Our small staff has and will continue to work diligently to process each
request as quickly as possible.

*Please note, we will not respond to status update requests more than once
every six months.*

To notify this office of a change in your contact information or to track
the status of your request, please telephone 301-837-3190 or e-mail
specialaccess_foia@nara.gov. If you have specific questions regarding the
subject of your request, please contact Chris Abraham directly at
christopher.abraham@nara.gov or 301-837-2968. All communications concerning
this request should reference your case tracking number RD 58234.

Sincerely,
Alexis Bucher
