To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

I would like records reflecting the usage of Slack by the Department of State:

- Records reflecting each Slack team in use that show the team domain name. This could be satisfied by screenshots of the Admin area of each Slack team or invoices that include the [teamname].slack.com identifier.

https://get.slack.help/hc/en-us/categories/200122103-Team-Administration

- Records reflecting the channel names and descriptions in each Slack team. This could be satisfied with screenshots of the entire list in the channel browser in each team: https://get.slack.help/hc/en-us/articles/205239967-Browsing-and-joining-channels

According to this article, some components of the Department of State use Slack: http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/users/2015/04/slack_and_the_office_chat_several_people_are_typing_who_s_working.html

Slack is a group chat tool used for office collaboration.

I believe that IT staff would be aware of Slack and able to locate the appropriate records. There is no need to search historical records, I'm only interested in the current usage of Slack.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Rudenberg

From the form letter you sent it looks like you want a timeframe for this request. As stated in my original request, I'm only looking for currently active Slack teams. The most likely place where these records will exist is within the Slack system.

Thank you,

Jonathan Rudenberg
