From: Robert Sterner
Dear FOIA Officer:
Pursuant to the federal Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C. § 552, I request access to and copies of records concerning the operation of the U.S. Department of Education’s social media accounts. This will include, but may not be limited to, documents, emails, reports, memoranda, meeting agendas and meeting minutes that detail:
1. What individual or individuals are in charge of the accounts and within which department of the Dept. of Education?
2. What rules they operate under for content guidance, posting frequency, retweeting and similar?
3. Documents that indicate any reprimands and demotions for shortcomings or failures in operating the social media accounts effectively.
4. Any mention of “W.E.B. DuBois” or “W.E.B. DeBois” or “W.E.B. De Bois” in Dept. of Education internal communication(email, memo).
This FOIA request shall be limited to the documents produced in the period beginning with Tuesday November 8, 2016 and ending Monday February 13, 2017.
I would like to receive the information in a digital format, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
If possible, please waive any applicable fees. Release of the information is in the public interest because it will contribute significantly to public understanding of government operations and activities. The Broadcaster is a scholastic news publication serving Hershey, PA since 1926. Our reporting is in the public interest and will help the 3,000+ students of Derry Township School District and the 25,000+ residents of Derry Township understand how their federal government operates.
If the waiver of fees is denied, I agree to pay reasonable duplication fees for the processing of this request in an amount not to exceed $20. However, please notify me prior to your incurring any expenses in excess of that amount.
If my request is denied in whole or part, I ask that you justify all deletions by reference to specific exemptions of the act. I will also expect you to release all segregable portions of otherwise exempt material. I, of course, reserve the right to appeal your decision to withhold any information or to deny a waiver of fees.
I would appreciate your communicating with me by email or telephone, rather than by mail. I look forward to your determination regarding my request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.
