From: FOIA, NPS
Mr. Morisy,
Regarding the portion of your request seeking crowd estimates prepared
during the January 20, 2017, we have no responsive records. Due to the
difficulty in accurately assessing crowd estimates for large events, most
notably following 1995’s Million Man March, the National Park Service no
longer makes it a practice to provide crowd estimates for permitted events.
While we make internal estimates for staffing, security and emergency
response purposes, it is left to the discretion of event organizers to make
a determination of the event attendance.
Regarding the remainder of your request for any internal estimates that may
have been prepared and any records relating to the use of magnetometers,
has been routed to the US Park Police for processing. They will contact
you shortly to provide you with a tracking number and an estimated response
date. In the meantime you can contact their FOIA Officer at:

Dear Mr. Morisy,
We are in receipt of your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated
January 21, 2017. Your request has been assigned control number NPS
2017-00453.
Since January 21, the National Park Service has received a high volume of
requests related to the 2017 Presidential Inauguration and 1st Amendment
demonstrations, as well as to the communications with the new
Administration. As many of the requests we have received overlap in the
documents they are requesting, we are currently compiling batches of
documents responsive in full or in part to these requests. Once our
processing is complete, we will be posting these batches of documents on
the NPS FOIA Reading Room (https://www.nps.gov/aboutus/foia/foia-frd.htm).
We will notify you as we make uploads of documents over the coming weeks.
Please note that later this month, I will be transitioning out of my role
as FOIA Officer and Christopher Watts will become the FOIA Officer for the
National Capital Region of the National Park Service. Christopher is cc'd
on this correspondence.
Sincerely,
Brandon Bies
