To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

I am requesting information from the Office of the Executive Secretary concerning records of reimbursements for court-appointed counsel. Specifically, I am seeking:

The total count of reimbursements to counsel for court-appointed cases.
The total amount paid for these reimbursements.

I would like this data split by court where counsel was appointed. I would like this data provided on a monthly basis, if available, between January 2010 and December 2024. If monthly data is not available, yearly totals are acceptable.

If possible, I also request that the data be separated by case type (misdemeanor vs. felony) within each court.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Tom Nash, a citizen of Virginia, in coordination with Brandon Morrissey.

Ms. Padden,

This looks great! I had a follow-up question- is getting the count of reimbursements paid possible?

Thank you!
