To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Maine Freedom of Access Act ("FOAA"), I hereby request the following records:

Any and all contracts entered into with Corizon Health for services within the jurisdiction of this agency

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by 1 M.R.S.A. § 408(6). The documents being requested are a vital component of an ongoing journalistic investigation of public-private corrections partnerships, a critical element in the current discussion of our criminal justice system. The materials will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com and will by analyzed and contextualized by a representative of the news media/press. This request is made in the process of news gathering and is not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Beryl C.D. Lipton

To Whom It May Concern:

I wanted to follow up on the following Freedom of Information request, copied below, and originally submitted on July 6, 2015. Please let me know when I can expect to receive a response, or if further clarification is needed.

Thank you for your help.

From: Beryl Lipton

Hello Captain Rolfe,

Thanks so much for your message. Can you please clarify whether Washington County Jail has ever had a contract with Corizon? According to Corizon's website [http://www.corizonhealth.com/S=0/About-Corizon/Locations], the Jail currently contracts with that company.

Thanks again for your help. I believe another follow up was recently sent via mail; please disregard it, should it arrive, as email is my preferred means of communication.

Best,
Beryl

From:

Beryl;
I took over jail operation in February of 2013. We have not had a contract with Corizon in that time. I have looked for a copy of an old contract and did not find one. I do not know if the Washington County Jail ever had a contract with Corizon. We presently use Pharmacor, which is part of Corizon for our inmate pharmaceutical needs. No contract is in place with them at this time.
