Talk of hate and fear has dominated the discourse in the weeks since the election, and MuckRock wants to start keeping track of the intersections where those two things coalesce in a crime.

But, of course, we’re going to need your help.

For each instance of a hate crime you hear of - that is, a crime motivated by a dislike of a particular race, gender, sexual orientation, or other prejudice - please let us know, and we’ll file for the incident report.

Though many incidents of hate-related harm go unreported and some of those reported go unconfirmed, beginning to keep a real-time look at what’s happening where may give us a clearer understanding of how hate reveals itself in times of national transition.

So, please contribute what you learn, and if you are interested in helping to build up the collection in your particular state or area, please let us know at info@muckrock.com.
