Records released this month by Minneapolis Police show the department has spent over $11.5 million in officer conduct lawsuits and settlements since 2011, spending as much as $4.2 million in one year.
The records, which go up to October 31st, 2016, document 148 cases resolved against the department, the overwhelming majority of which were settled out of court. In addition, MPD also provided expenses regarding these cases, showing another $1.4 million in costs.
