Matt,

This is to acknowledge your public records request, copied below. We sent this to the appropriate University officials for a response. We will get back to you if there are any charges associated with that response, in accordance with our fee schedule<https://transparency.uiowa.edu/frequently-asked-questions>.

Please note that when we receive requests that reference a response time of ten business days or twenty calendar days, or something similar asserting a deadline, our attorneys have asked us to advise requestors of the Iowa Supreme Court's ruling on the time required to respond to public records requests:

Horsfield v. City of Dyersville

“Based on our review of section 22.8(4)(d), we believe it is not intended to impose an absolute twenty-day deadline on a government entity to find and produce requested public records, no matter how voluminous the request. Rather, it imposes an outside deadline for the government entity to determine ‘whether a confidential record should be available for inspection and copying to the person requesting the right to do so.’ We do not think we should extrapolate section 22.8(4)(d)’s twenty-day deadline to other contexts, when the legislature chose not event to include that deadline in the other portions of section 22.8(4).”
