Pursuant to the Iowa Open Records Law (Code Chapter 22), I hereby request the following records:
Documents, including email, related to Iowa City School District's decision to implement Google Apps for Education. Records and correspondence discussing student privacy protection, internal correspondence regarding Google's data scanning and retention policies, and rationale using students' real names for Google accounts. All correspondence between Superintendent Stephen Murley and David Dude related to the implementation Google Apps for Education.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, and is not being made for commercial usage.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Good Morning. We have received the initial results of a search for the documents you requested. As specific search terms were not provide, the search was conducted with the following parameters:
• Messages between start of database and 4/15/15
• From Murley, Dude, Lucas or Rehmke
• Subject or contents containing “GAFE” or “Google”
This search returned 4,633 emails. At this point, there are two ways to move forward. You can provide us more specific search terms in an attempt to minimize the potential number of responsive documents, or we can begin review of the returned documents to determine those that are actually responsive to your request. The District charges $25 an hour for this work (as is outlined in the District’s procedure available on the District Website – www.iowacityschools.org<http://www.iowacityschools.org>). We anticipate that this review would take more than 77 hours (reviewing documents at a pace of 60 per hour) and would result in a fee of approximately $1,937 to complete the request.
